Haus K is a comprehensive renovation and expansion project of a charming family home situated in the picturesque and culturally rich state of Salzburg. The primary focus of the endeavor was to thoughtfully optimize the available living space while significantly enhancing the functional separation within the household, thereby better accommodating the diverse and evolving needs of its residents. Central to the design strategy was the substantial expansion of the attic area, which has been transformed into a spacious, bright, and modern new kitchen and living room that effectively increases the home's overall usable square footage and creates a welcoming environment for daily family life. Furthermore, the project involved enlarging the front facade balcony, carefully crafting an inviting and comfortable outdoor area that is ideally suited for both relaxation and lively family gatherings throughout the seasons. One of the standout architectural features is the addition of an external staircase that seamlessly connects the newly established balconies with the existing ones; this element was thoughtfully designed to offer distinct and separate entrances tailored specifically for different generations of the family—one entrance catering to the older generation and another designed for the younger members. This sensitive approach not only fosters privacy and independence for each generation but also maintains a harmonious and cohesive architectural aesthetic, skillfully balancing both form and function while respecting the home’s original character.
